Bayboro, the county seat of Pamlico County. BaybBayboro was named for the Bay River and settled long before it was incorporated in 1881. It is the oldest incorporated town in the county and was the first to have town water.

Vandemere, meaning "Village By The Sea," in reality is a "Village By The River," the Bay River. The Bay River (approximately 25 miles long) is centrally located in eastern North Carolina between the Pamlico and Neuse rivers. Vandemere is located approximately 3 miles from the mouth of the Bay River and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
